Advanced Math Boot Camp is an online course designed for students enrolled in 7th grade Math but not in 7th grade Accelerated Math.
7th grade Accelerated Math covers both 7th and 8th grade math objectives. Therefore, students who complete this course can take Algebra 1 in 8th grade. The Virtual Math Boot Camp covers 8th grade math objectives with an Algebra Readiness test at the end of the camp.
Students must get 80% or higher on this exam to take Algebra 1 to take Algebra 1 in 8th grade.
-
What are the dates and times of the course?
The camp is held June 10-27, 9am-12pm each day (M-Th). The last day of camp, June 27th, students will be testing at the Education Center located at 350 Keller Parkway, Keller, TX 76248
-
What is the cost?
The cost is $150 ($50 for those on free/ reduced lunch)
-
What is the course like? Is it self-paced? Is there a live teacher?
This class meets virtually each day with a certified KISD math teacher. The teacher will lead the whole group in instruction about 50% of the time. The other 50% of the time, students will work either with the teacher in small groups or work independently on the Canvas course. Students will be instructed to bring questions from their independent work to their small group sessions with the teacher.

Who is a good candidate for this course?
Students who are enrolled in 7th grade math that are getting good grades and want the challenge of taking Algebra 1 the following school year make great candidates for this summer camp.
-
How will students access the course?
During the month of May, all the students registered will receive an email through their KISD email account with information about accessing the course. This will include a "practice" course that is required. This course will teach them how to use any technology used in the course. Teachers will begin emailing students during the first week of June.
-
What if my child has to miss some of these dates due to travel and other camps?
All the course content is available in Canvas so that students can work on what they miss, if they miss any. We encourage all students to bring their math questions to each small group so that the teacher can best support their math needs. There will be no additional tutorials provided.
-
What can students expect on the day of testing?
The Algebra Readiness test is proctored by the math teachers on the last day of the camp, June 27th. Students need to report to The Education Center at 350 Keller Parkway at 9am on the day of testing. Teachers will be available to proctor the test all day if needed (the majority of students finish the test in 1–2 hours). Students who have accommodations and/ or modifications that are required by law during the school day will receive these on the day of testing. All students will be given a formula chart and a graphing calculator. Teachers will use the Desmos application as a graphing calculator during the course and students can choose to use it on the day of testing. The only thing students need to bring to the test is their district issued device.
-
When will we know the results of the test?
You will be able to check your score in Canvas after you have tested.
-
Can I get a copy of the test afterwards to go over with my child?
In order to keep our assessment secure, the test will not be available. Students who do not get 80% of the test correctly will be enrolled in 8th grade math the following year, where they will have a chance to revisit all of these topics in more depth.
-
What if my child cannot attend the date for testing?
Unfortunately, I am unable to provide additional testing days this summer. The only testing date will be June 27th and there is no retesting available.
-
