Patient Care Technician Program

As a Certified Patient Care Technician/Assistant (CPCT/A), students will be trained to perform hands-on skills to serve patients’ basic needs under the supervision of licensed health professionals. Some procedures and responsibilities include assisting the nurse or physician, providing physical patient care, performing basic lab tests and phlebotomy, cardiac monitoring and obtaining vital signs. This course provides the opportunity for students to become a Certified Patient Care Technician/Assistant (CPCT/A) after successful completion of a National Certification Exam for Patient Care Technicians. Students will also have the opportunity to obtain additional certifications such as American Heart Association Basic Life Support (CPR). A strong emphasis will be placed on ethics, accountability, and professionalism for each student.

Practicum in PCT I & II

Hello! I’m Jennifer Bullock, and I will be teaching PCT senior practicum this year at KCAL. I attended Texas A&M University and then Texas Woman’s University in Houston for my Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I have been a Registered Nurse for 25 years and have worked in all things pediatrics: Neonatal ICU, a pediatrician’s office, home health nursing, telephone triage, school nursing and in the ambulatory specialty clinics at Children’s Dallas. This will be my 4th year teaching health science. Outside of school, I love walking my two pugs and being with family and friends. My daughter is a junior at Texas A&M and my son is an active 5th grader in KISD. I love going to Aggie games, my son’s soccer games and visiting the mountains every chance I get. I’m looking forward to a great year helping students achieve their goals as they prepare for their future professional life!
