Medical Assistant
Healthcare is a very dynamic and exciting industry. In the Practicum in Medical Assistant Program, students will be trained to perform clinical procedures and administrative responsibilities under the supervision of licensed health professionals. Some basic procedures and responsibilities include: assisting the physician, caring for patients, performing basic lab tests and phlebotomy, cardiac monitoring, administering medications, scheduling, and insurance verification.
This MA course provides the opportunity for students to become Certified Clinical Medical Assistants (CCMA) after successful completion of a National Certification Exam for Clinical Medical Assistants. Students will also have the opportunity to obtain additional certifications such as American Heart Association Basic Life Support (CPR).

Practicum in Medical Assistant I & II
I was born and grew up in a small town in Louisiana (Geaux Tigers!). I moved to Texas in 2013 and received my nursing degree from Tarrant County College. I began my career as an acute care registered nurse at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth, but also loved working as a pediatric home health nurse for 3 years. I enjoy my time at home with my husband and our 20-month-old son, the light of our lives! We have two dogs: a 14 year old Scottish Terrier named Gus, and a 4 year old chocolate lab named Ziva. When not teaching or nursing, I enjoy an active lifestyle, working out, cooking nutritious meals, being outdoors, spending time with friends and family, visiting the beach, and watching the LSU Tigers play football. This is my fourth year teaching Health Science Practicums. I can’t wait to start the school year and assist my students in developing their talents on a personal level and within the healthcare field.
