Bowling
-
Bowling is among the most popular sports in Special Olympics Texas. It is a particularly beneficial sport to people with intellectual disabilities, irrespective of their age or sports abilities, since it ensures physical exercise and at the same time participation and social integration. Plus, it's great fun!
Special Olympics Texas Bowling allows for the use of bowling ball ramps by athletes who do not have the physical ability to roll a ball with their hand or hands. Bumpers are not allowed for Special Olympics Texas competition.

Do I need to attend practices in order to participate in bowling or can I just show up for competition?
Every participant must attend practice in order to participate in the Area competition.
-
When and where are bowling practices held?
Weekly practice consists of two games. It is a come-and-go practice. Each athlete is free to leave after they have completed their two practice games. Athletes must arrive at the bowling alley at least 30 minutes before practice is over to ensure enough time to complete their practice games.
-
What are the requirements to be eligible for Area competition?
Athletes must be at least 8 years old, participate in the majority of the bowling practices and have a current medical on file.
-
How are athletes arranged in groups for competition?
Athletes are grouped by age, gender, and ability giving everyone a reasonable chance to win.
-
Will I need to provide equipment or fees for my athlete, such as lane fees, bowling ball or bowling shoes or ramp?
KISD will provide all equipment necessary to participate in bowling. However, your athlete may use their own bowling ball, shoes, or ramp if you would like to provide these items. In years past, we have received a grant from the Grapevine Elks Club to cover the cost of the lane fees. If this continues, there will be no fees charged for practice or competition games. If not, parents may be asked to pay a nominal fee for practice games.

Will transportation be provided to Area bowling competitions?
Yes, bus transportation will be provided to any Area bowling competition that falls on a school day. Any weekend competitions will require the parents to provide transportation.
