• UIL ACADEMICS
The University Interscholastic League offers a wide variety of academic contests for high school students, encompassing many elements of required high school coursework. These contests build upon the academic skills developed in the classroom and offer students an opportunity to stretch their talents above and beyond those requirements. It offers more than any other UIL division in terms of activities, with 22 high school and 18 elementary, intermediate, and middle school contests. More than a half million students participate in UIL academic contests.

    SPEECH AND DEBATE
High school students have many opportunities to sharpen their public speaking skills through a variety of speech offerings. From taking a basic speech communications course, which teaches the role of communications in our daily lives, to participation on one of the nationally competitive high school debate teams, there is something for every level of interest. Students engage in the art and study of argumentative discourse used in public speaking, debate, and courts of law. For the purposes of secondary school programs, Forensics also includes those aspects of theatrical performance events which are part of the competitive tournament circuit (duet acting, duo interpretation, dramatic, humorous, prose, and poetry interpretation).
