Central High School posted the No.1 grade point average (GPA) amongst the unweighted high school category in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's (NFCA) Easton Top 10 GPAs for high school programs for the 2022-23 academic year.

Under the guidance of coach Brittany Scarafiotti, Central recorded a 3.979 GPA with 13 athletes taking home All-America Scholar-Athlete recognition.

"We could not be prouder of our student-athletes," Scarafiotti said. "Juggling the demands of being in season and a full academic workload can be really difficult to manage, and our young ladies never made any excuses. We have a saying, 'how you do anything is how you do everything,' and they really took that to heart, taking care of their business, and excelled both on the field and in the classroom. Our student-athletes set lofty goals with the intention of raising the standards in our program in all areas, and it was an absolute pleasure to watch them achieve and surpass those goals, setting new expectations for all future Charger Softball members to meet." 

The rankings and honors recognize the academic prowess of softball teams across the Association’s high school membership. The unweighted category is for high schools that use a 4.0 GPA scale. 

According to Scarafiotti, Central's softball players challenge themselves to take higher level classes and take pride in their academics. Program expectations for academics set by the athletes and coaches hold the team accountable as well.  

"As a program expectation, we require higher than the minimum 70 in all classes so that the fear of becoming ineligible is never a concern," she said. "We encourage our athletes to email their teachers and copy coaches with academic 'game plans' such as tutoring and retesting anytime their grade falls below a 72, making sure they're accountable for that plan. Our teachers at Central High School do a really great job working patiently with our student-athletes throughout the year; they show grace when needing to work around competitions and take the extra time to tutor our student-athletes when needed. This honor would not have been possible without their support."
