KHS Boys Win 6A State Swimming Championship

Keller High School's Boys Swimming team won its first-ever UIL Class 6A State Swimming and Diving Team Championship, while collecting gold medals in six events February 17-18 in Austin.

KHS sophomore Maximus Williamson earned Boys Athlete of the Meet honors, as he collected gold in two individual events and one relay, along with a silver in another relay. In the 200-Yard Individual Medley, Williamson won gold, breaking his own state record that he set last year, with a time of 1:42.17. He also won the 100 Backstroke, posting a time of 47.24 and led the KHS Boys 400 Freestyle Relay team, which won with a time of 1:21.93.

Not to be outdone, Keller High junior Cooper Lucas also collected a pair of individual golds, finishing first in the 200 Free (1:35.34) and 500 Free (4:19.40). Lucas swam second in both the 400 Free Relay team, and the Indians' 200 Free Relay team, which also won gold (1:21.93).

Also part of the State-Champion 200 Free Relay team were junior River Paulk, senior Jacob Fabian, and sophomore Ricardo Osio. Freshmen Maxwell Stanislaus and junior Collin Quickstad swam the last two legs of the winning 400 Free Relay.

Keller's 200 Medley Relay came close to adding another gold for the team, finishing second despite eclipsing the state record in the event. The Indians' team of Williamson, junior Branden Beladi, Osio, and Paulk finished just seven one-hundredths of a second behind the team from Conroe The Woodlands.

KHS boys swimmers advanced to five other event finals, as well, giving them 260 team points, edging out The Woodlands (238) as State Champions.

Keller High's girls team also had several standouts, led by sophomore Avery Collins, who earned her way to the medal stand with a third-place finish in the 200 IM (2:00.22) and also made it to the finals of the 100 Breaststroke, where she finished in sixth place (1:02.79).

Central High's Katie Gyure made the finals of the 200 Free, finishing in sixth place.

Keller ISD divers made a splash in the Boys Diving Championships, advancing to the Finals and claiming places 3-5. Timber Creek High senior Christian Eriksen finished third (384.90), followed by TCHS teammate and junior Mack Malloy (360.30) in fourth, and Fossil Ridge High senior Colten Cryer, who finished fifth.

Congratulations to the KHS Boys team on its State Championship and to all of the other State Qualifiers who represented Keller ISD so well at the Class 6A Championship Meet!
