How Do I Qualify?

Pre-Kindergarten Special Education Student must be 4 years of age by Sept. 1 of the current school year AND meet one or more of the following criteria:
Students may begin school at the age of 3 with an identified disability
1. Qualify as an ESL/Bi-lingual student, PPCD - PreSchool Program for Children with Disabilities 2. Eligible to participate in the national free or reduced-price lunch program, TALK - Teaching Articulation and Language to Kids 3. Homeless as defined by 42 United States Code (U.S.C) Section 1142a, 4. Child of an active duty member of the armed forces, or who was injured or killed while serving on active duty, 5. Is or ever has been in the conservatorship of the Dept. of Family Protective Services, 6. Is the child of a person eligible for the Star of Texas Award as:
*a peace officer under Section 3106.002, Government Code;
*a firefighter under Section 3106.003, Government Code; or
*an emergency medical first responder under Section 3106.004, Government Code.

If you suspect that your child may have a disability, you can schedule an appointment through Child Find by calling 817-744-6900. The KISD Special Education Department will schedule a time for you to bring in your child for an evaluation.
