What is PBIS?

"PBIS" is short for Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports.  PBIS is a framework or approach for assisting school personnel in adopting and organizing evidence-based behavioral interventions into an integrated continuum that enhances academic and social behavior outcomes for all students. PBIS IS NOT a packaged curriculum, scripted intervention, or manual strategy. PBIS IS a prevention-oriented way for school personnel to (a) organize evidence-based practices, (b) improve their implementation of those practices, and (c) maximize academic and social behavior outcomes for students. PBIS supports the success of ALL students.   -www.PBIS.org

At the ELC South, PBIS focuses on students showing the LEO Way.  This means that students should show Leadership, Excellence, and Ownership.

What is the ELC South PBIS Mission Statement?

Our mission is to foster and promote a consistent, safe, and positive school environment that enhances student learning through teaching and recognizing positive behavior.

How is PBIS used at the ELC South?

At the ELC South, our staff has focused on the areas and times of day when our students are in transition or have the least amount of structured teacher instruction.  During these focused areas and times students use the LEO Way to show they understand the expectation that have been explicitly taught to them through classroom instruction and practice.  Staff at the ELC South use Cub cards and Caught Ya Cards to provide positive feedback to the students that are showing the LEO Way.

What are the areas of focus for the ELC South PBIS program?

The ELC South staff have decided to focus on Hallway behavior, Arrival/Dismissal procedures, Lunch procedures, and Restroom procedures.

What are the students working to earn?

Students showing the LEO Way earn hole punches in their Cub Card.  When student earn the desired number of hole punches they earn a prize.  Each Cub card has a unique color or pattern and is connected to a specific prize, as students progress through the LEO cards they earn new and exciting prizes along the way.
